Don’t wear a green hat in China!

By Selena W No Comments on Don’t wear a green hat in China!

What does green hat mean in Chinese? A green-colored hat, or a green-colored turban? Yes, but it may also mean something else.If someone’s partner cheated on him, people can say: He’s been cuckolded, or he was green.

Why is green hat used in this way? In the Ming Dynasty, all men who had women in their families working as prostitutes had to wear a green turban to distinguish them from others, so it came to mean this.

In China, no men would like to wear a green hat. If you wear a green hat, people will probably look at you strangely. Got it?
