One of the customs of the Chinese people during the Spring Festival

Posted on 2020年1月21日 By Selena W No Comments on One of the customs of the Chinese people during the Spring Festival

Chinese people have many customs during the Spring Festival, one of which is to give red envelopes. What is giving a red envelope? To give a red envelope is to put money in a red envelope by an elderly member of the family and then give it to the children who come to pay a New Year visit. If the relationship is close, the person will usually receive red envelopes from family members before getting a job. This money is also called lucky money, which means good luck. The sums usually range from a few hundred to a few thousand.

So now the use of red envelopes is more widely: the boss gives red envelopes to employees as a reward; red envelopes are given to relatives and friends as a blessing when they get married; now it is also possible to give red envelopes on the Chinese chat app WeChat.

But sometimes giving red envelopes can also cause pressure, as people need to decide how much money to put in the envelopes. What do you think?
